Benefits of non-invasive skincare treatments, according to a skincare specialist

We had a lot of feedback and interest surrounding last month’s blog which was all about the rise of non-invasive skincare treatments and the shift away from injectables, like botox and dermal filler.

But the one key question that kept on coming up from clients was, ‘Why do you believe non-invasive skincare treatments, like hydra-dermabrasion and microcurrent, are the way forward?’

As we stated in the previous blog, former Love Island star, Molly-Mae Hague, has talked at length about her decision to ditch injectables. But she’s not the only one to break up with botox. It’s believed actress Demi Moore and Courtney Cox have said goodbye to injectables, with the Friends actress quoted saying facial fillers were her ‘biggest beauty regret’.

So, as a skincare specialist with just under 40 years’ of experience in the sector, I wanted to weigh in on the topic and share my knowledge on why I believe non-invasive skincare treatments are worth their weight in gold.

Benefits of non-invasive skincare treatments

  1. For starters there’s longevity

No matter whether it’s radio frequency or mesotherapy electroporation — the great thing about non-invasive skincare treatments is that they have longevity.

That’s because all non-invasive skincare treatments that I offer to my clients, are designed to wake up your fibroblast cells in some shape or form. Without getting too technical, these cells provide structural support and shape to our connective tissues.

As we get older, our fibroblast cells become lazy and go to sleep and no longer create new collagen (which is like your skin’s scaffolding system). According to research, collagen is something that starts declining by 1% each year, beginning in early adulthood. And, as stated by the American Academy of Dermatology, women lose 30% of their skin's collagen in the five years following menopause.

But that’s where non-invasive skincare treatments, like a TCA BioRePeel and microneedling, step up to the plate, by slowing down the natural ageing process which contributes to the longevity of youthful looking skin.

  1. They get to the root of the problem and treat the cause, not the symptoms

If you’ve turned to injectables for a temporary solution to smooth wrinkles or to add volume and plumpness to the skin — in my opinion, that’s exactly what you’ll get, a quick fix. They treat the symptoms but not the cause of the problem, so when you stop for whatever reason, the wrinkles and sagging skin come back. Women often feel like they have aged overnight and haven’t even noticed.

The problem is that those fibroblast cells we spoke about previously continue to decline in the background and the injectables simply hide the fact that you are not maintaining your skin’s health. Injectables are a plaster, not a long-term treatment.

So, if you ask me, it would be more productive to get to the root cause of the problem, instead of just masking it. It is much more beneficial to invest in your skin for the long term rather than getting a short-term fix.

  1. There is minimal downtime

Regardless of whether you chose a chemical peel, microneedling, LED or radiofrequency skin tightening, if you really wanted to, you could have a facial and head back to work — as these non-invasive skincare treatments have zero to minimal downtime.

  1. They work!

Providing you maintain your treatment, whether it’s once a month, once every two months or every six, non-invasive skincare treatments will continue to stimulate the cells to produce the all-important collagen, elastin, growth factors, hyaluronic acid and vitamin A that your cells already have and will be working hard around the clock and behind the scenes to provide more.

But it’s not just me who says so!

One client has decided to ditch fillers in her smile creases and cheek bones due to the improvement she’s seen with having radiofrequency and microneedling. “I haven’t had them for at least three years,” the client says. “Radiofrequency definitely has a firming effect and microneedling has helped me to boost collagen, which has resulted in a plumping effect.”
